CV Cares: Care Fair is a community-driven event designed to support Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) efforts by improving access to mental health resources, access to substance misuse and prevention resources, providing educational presentations, and fostering meaningful community connections. This event is a safe space where individuals and families can learn, heal, and grow together.
What to Expect
Resource Fair: Connect with local mental health organizations, service providers, and advocacy groups.
Interactive Community Activities:
Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness sessions
The Community Tree: A hands-on activity where attendees can contribute through this art activation the messages of hope, resilience, and gratitude, symbolizing collective growth and support.
Art & Expression Activities: These will be held in rooms on the St. Luke's campus.

Kristen Marie Gilliland, PhD
Assistant Professor of Research | Director of Outreach & Advocacy, Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery, Vanderbilt
Dr. Kristen previously served as an Associate Professor at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she taught Neurochemistry. After the heartbreaking loss of her 22-year-old son to an accidental overdose linked to mental health struggles, she shifted her focus to educating students, parents, and communities about adolescent brain development. She has created an award-winning documentary and delivers impactful presentations worldwide on the effects of stress and substance use on the developing adolescent brain.

As a trainer with the Master Hypnotist Society, she also runs a Hypnosis Certification and NLP school in Los Angeles. Passionate about community education, she teaches self-hypnosis at the Cancer Support Community and frequently speaks at public events. Her expertise has been featured on Amazon Prime, LA TV, and MTV’s Teen Mom. Dr. Varvaryan specializes in working with adolescents and adults, provides family and couples therapy, and actively engages in community wellness events.

This event is in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. CalMHSA awarded more than $4 million in grants to community-based organizations for May 2025. These grants aim to increase access to mental health resources, reduce mental health stigma and discrimination, and expand help-seeking behavior through events that encourage attendees to take action for themselves, for others, and for their community.
